The right TESOL course for you
This TESOL-direct TESOL Certificate course is primarily designed for people who are:
- seeking a career in teaching English; or
- already working in a TESOL / TEFL job but needing a formal teaching qualification; or
- going on an overseas or home assignment to teach English to speakers of other languages.
The TESOL-direct TESOL Certificate course is an excellent choice for both native and non-native speakers of English.
Please note that our TESOL course is accredited by the College of Teachers and is the higher level Associate of the College of Teachers’ certificate – ACoT (TESOL), not the lower level College of Teachers’ Certificate of Educational Studies - COES (TESOL).
If you want to enrol with TESOL-direct, you need a standard of education that would allow you to take a higher education course. Having a degree is an advantage but not a requirement, so don't be put off if you have a rather unorthodox collection of qualifications and experiences. Sometimes these can be a distinct advantage!
You need to be competent in the four English language skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing, but English doesn't need to be your first language.
You should be at least 18 by the time you complete the course and receive your certificate. Many gap-year students have completed the course and gone on to have very rewarding teaching experiences in different parts of the world. There is no maximum age limit for this course.
Our TESOL courses are offered by distance learning and are not online courses as such. A TESOL distance learning course will provide you with a package of course materials which you work through at your own pace. There are assignments at various points which you will complete and return to your personal tutor; a short time later you will receive comprehensive feedback. In contrast, TESOL online courses require you to login every time to view the course material and complete a range of tasks and assignments online. The feedback on TESOL online learning courses tend to be minimal, and overall such courses are likely to be limited in range and depth. We do not believe that this is the most appropriate approach for a TESOL training course. After downloading, our TESOL distance learning course materials can be taken with you anywhere without the need to be online.
