Our current team of tutors includes, amongst others:
Paul Simmonds (BA, PGCE, MEd) - Paul has taught in primary schools, secondary schools and teacher training colleges and has also taught at the University of Birmingham. He worked overseas for the British Council for 15 years and was based in the Ministry of Education headquarters in Tanzania for 5 years. He has an MEd (TESOL) from the University of Manchester. He has had consultancy experience in China, Kenya, Tanzania and Pakistan and has also worked on textbooks for OUP, Pearson Longman and the Aga Khan Foundation.
Philip Treece (BA, RSA Dip, MA) - Philip speaks Russian and Turkish and has an RSA TEFL Diploma as well as an MA in Applied Linguistics from the University of Birmingham. He has worked in Turkey, Cyprus, Indonesia and the UK. He has taught business English for companies such as British Petroleum, Cargill, Fiat and has also trained WHO staff. He has considerable teaching and teacher-training experience and is currently working at the University of Birmingham.
Dodie Brooks (BA, MA, PhD) - Dodie has worked at primary, secondary and tertiary level in the UK. She trained as a teacher and has a BA in History from the University of Leeds as well as a PhD from University College, London. She has taught in Kenya and China and also has extensive experience of writing English language textbooks.
Vince Robbins (BA, PGCE, RSA TESL, MEd, PGCert Teaching & Learning in H.E.) - Vince has worked for many years as a teacher and teacher trainer in the UK, Thailand and Zambia in secondary, further and higher education. He has taught general and business English and has extensive international education experience. He has tutored students from many different linguistic and cultural backgrounds. He specialises in the use of the Internet and other information communication technologies to support open and distance learning.
The members of the TESOL-direct team have been working as teachers or teacher trainers in the UK and overseas for a minimum of 15 years. They have experience of teaching in a wide range of different institutions including isolated, rural primary and secondary schools with few resources, private and government schools and colleges, as well as fully-equipped British Council centres and universities. They are all very experienced in a variety of different methodologies and the preparation of materials for the classroom.
The trainers have worked in a wide range of different countries including China, Germany, Indonesia, Pakistan, Russia, Turkey, Tanzania, Thailand, Zambia and the UK. They have also been involved in the preparation of educational materials for a range of different publishers in China, Ghana, Tanzania, Uganda and the UK. Most of them are currently working in universities in the UK.
Our team members all have experience in teacher training with particular specialisations in such areas as business English, classroom management, classroom materials, student assessment and the use of ICT (information communication technology) for educational purposes. They all have postgraduate qualifications and hold at least an MA or MEd in such areas as TESOL/TEFL, linguistics or education.
